Today, Monday, the representative of the National Nahj bloc, Hussein Al-Aqabi, described the decision to raise the exchange rate of the dollar against the Iraqi dinar as a serious mistake made by the government.
Al-Uqabi said in a statement to the “Central National News” that “the decision to raise the exchange rate of the dollar was presented with a political will, and it is a grave mistake that the government was supposed to take parallel and simultaneous real measures with this decision, and the citizen directly touches them,” explaining that these measures “represent in reducing the rates of Unemployment, providing job opportunities and securing the needs of poor families and people with limited income, in addition to controlling market prices and supporting the national industry.
He added: "We knew that the government would not take these steps, which prompted us to announce the rejection of this decision," noting that "prices are rising continuously and unemployment rates have increased significantly, with the failure to secure additional allocations for the social protection network."
He pointed out that “it is necessary for the government to admit this mistake and retract from proceeding with the decision to raise the exchange rate of the dollar, especially since the excuses used by the government are flimsy and unrealistic,” noting that “there is a decrease in the salaries of employees and retirees to 35%, and they constitute a total of six million people, in addition to the decrease in the amounts of social welfare in exchange for the remarkable rise in commodities and foodstuffs, if the damage to poor families is very clear.
