    Baghdad/National News Center
Today, Saturday, Minister of Water Resources Mahdi Rashid Al-Hamdani confirmed that Baghdad will resort to international forums to obtain its water rights from Iran if Tehran insists on cutting off all water resources from Diyala and its refusal to comply with agreements to share the damages of the scarcity of regional waters.
Al-Hamdani said in a press conference on the sidelines of his inspection of water projects in Diyala, followed by the "National News Center", that "the Iranian side did not show any response to us and is still cutting water from the rivers and streams of Sirwan, Karun, Karkha and Alwand, which has caused severe damage to the residents of Diyala, which directly depends on it." on the waters coming from Iran.
Al-Hamdani threatened by saying, "If Iran insists not to cooperate with Iraq regarding the water crisis in accordance with international conventions, we will have to resort to UNESCO, the United Nations and human rights to obtain our rights from the common tributaries and streams with Iran."
And he added, "We refuse to go to such solutions, and the matter depends on the cooperation of the Iranian side according to the foundations of good-neighborly relations and common interests."
Al-Hamdani criticized "the Iranian side's refusal to hold a meeting that was scheduled in mid-June and was postponed due to the Iranian elections, and they promised us to hold a meeting after the elections, but that did not materialize."
He added, "Iran helped us in the war against ISIS, and we hope for continued cooperation in sharing the damages of water scarcity, similar to the Turkish side, which shares the damages of the water crisis with Iraq."
The Minister of Water Resources pointed out that "there are no positive signs from the Iranian side regarding the water crisis and the sharing of regional damage, although we are aware of the size of the water reserves in Iran, but everyone should share the damages of water scarcity and the lack of water revenues."
