, the Minister of Transport, Nasser Hussein Al-Shibli, announced today, Thursday, the imminent contracting with an Italian company to implement the Basra-Baghdad-Berlin line, while confirming that the ministry owns 800 buses and will go to buy 100 others.
Al-Shibli said, "The railways in Iraq have a great history, as they started since the fifties of the last century, and reach Syria and from there to Turkey," noting that "all railways exist, but they are old, so we have rehabilitated many of these roads, especially those related to the western region." The northern region is the most affected.
He added, "The ministry had a problem only with regard to the railways that lie on the Euphrates River, but they have been completed through Anbar Governorate, and very soon the train will depart to the western region."
He pointed out that "there is a large project extending from Al-Faw, the old dream of Iraq, which is the Basra-Baghdad-Berlin line," stressing that "the ministry has started the steps of contracting with an Italian consulting company to develop a study to start this line from the port of Faw to Turkey, and it is hoped that the contract will be completed soon." ".
Regarding the dry canal, Al-Shibli said, "The ministry is currently in the process of preparing a study for the dry canal project and the executing company, and the highway extending from Basra to Syria, to Jordan and to the north will be developed."
On the bus lines, the minister stressed, "All lines are not retreating, but the Corona pandemic mainly affected transportation in general," noting that "the ministry has buses spread across all governorates of Iraq, with the exception of Anbar Governorate, the only one that does not enter buses."
He stressed, "The ministry currently has 800 buses and is in the process of contracting for another 100 buses," noting that "the ministry's buses arrive in Turkey and there are plans to open other lines."
Regarding the Al-Faw port project, the minister said, "Next week, he will make a visit to the Al-Faw port to follow up on the work and the stages the project has reached," stressing that "five projects are being completed within the infrastructure projects, in addition to preparing all the amounts for the project for the two years 2020 - 2021, and as a consequence, the general manager of the executing company promised to complete the project before the three-year deadline.
