Al-Jawahiri told Al-Furat News that: "Oil is gradually rising now, and it is expected to exceed the $80 barrier per barrel or remain at the same number to coincide with Christmas."
He added, "So far, the mutant (Omicron) has not affected oil prices, but the decline came as a result of America and other countries putting large quantities of oil on the market, amounting to 70 million barrels."
"The mutagen (Omicron) has affected South Africa as a country and has had a very small impact on the global economy," Al-Jawahiri added.
The price of Basra Light Crude rose after closing on Friday, to record a weekly profit of more than $3, with the rise in oil prices for the past week.
The price recovery comes after concerns eased about the impact of the Corona virus Omicron mutator on global oil demand.
Basra Light Crude rose in its last session before closing Friday by 43 cents to reach $74.90, to achieve a weekly profit of $3.21, or 4.48%.
Brent crude rose, in its last session before closing, by 73 cents to reach $75.15, and achieved a weekly profit of $5.27, or the equivalent of 7.54% in a week.
The US West Texas Intermediate crude was settled at an increase of 73 cents to reach $71.67 a barrel, and it also achieved a weekly profit of $4.79, or the equivalent of 7.16%.
