Shafaq News/ The Deputy Head of the Iranian Judiciary for International Affairs, Kazem Gharibabadi, announced on Wednesday that the Iraqi judiciary had handed over about 300 documents on the investigation into the file of the assassination of former Quds Force commander Qassem Soleimani near Baghdad International Airport.
Gharibabadi said, during a press conference, according to the Iranian "IRNA" agency, "We agreed with the Iraqi side to continue cooperation in the field of exchanging documents and available documents in this regard."
He added, "We have issued memoranda on behalf of the Public Prosecution for about 129 accused, and today the Iraqi Judicial Commission handed over 300 documents on the results of investigations related to 63 natural and 7 legal persons."
He pointed out that "the assassination of the martyr Hajj Qassem Soleimani and the martyr Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis and their companions has passed for nearly two years." Noting that "the main priority set by the Islamic Republic, in accordance with legal and judicial controls in this regard, is based on taking criminal measures by Iranian and Iraqi courts."
He referred to the "understanding that has occurred in recent months between the Iranian and Iraqi judiciary about forming a joint committee comprising judicial officials from both countries to follow up joint investigations and criminal procedures in this regard."
Gharibabadi stressed, "The Islamic Republic is keen to expedite the pace of criminal procedures in local courts, and in return, Iraq, as the country where the crime occurred, should take urgent criminal measures as well."
At the dawn of January 2, 2020, a US drone bombed a convoy carrying the Iranian Quds Force commander, General Qassem Soleimani, and the deputy head of the Popular Mobilization Authority, Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis, as it was leaving Baghdad International Airport, killing them and a number of their escorts.
