    President Masoud Barzani discussed with the leader of the Azm Khamis al-Khanjar coalition and the head of the Progress Alliance, Muhammad al-Halbousi, developments in the Iraqi political arena, and the steps of the first session of the Iraqi parliament.

    A statement issued by President Barzani's media office said today, Saturday (January 8, 2022), that President Masoud Barzani received today, Saturday, January 8, 2022 in Salah al-Din, a high-level delegation from the Coalition of Progress and Resolve. The delegation included Muhammad al-Halbousi, Khamis al-Khanjar and Ahmed Jubouri.

    The statement added that "in the meeting, opinions were opened on developments in the Iraqi political arena, the steps of the first session of the Iraqi parliament, and the formation of the new Iraqi government."

    The meeting also stressed the need for rapprochement between the components of Iraq and taking into consideration the interest and stability of Iraq, according to the statement.

    According to the final results, the Sadrist bloc won the largest number of parliamentary seats, with 73 seats in the 329-seat parliament, while the “Progress” bloc won 37 seats, and the State of Law coalition won 33 seats, while the Kurdistan Democratic Party won 31 seats. The Kurdistan Alliance won 17 seats, the Al-Fateh Alliance won 17 seats, while the Azm Alliance won 14 seats.

    The “Extension” movement won 9 seats, the “Eshraqa Kanon” movement won 6 seats, the “National Contract” coalition won 4 seats, the National State Forces alliance won 4 seats, and the “Hasm Reform Movement” alliance won 3 seats. The “Babylon” movement will have 4 seats, the “Our People is Our Identity” coalition will have 3 seats, the “Turkmen Iraq Unified Front” will have one seat, the “New Generation” movement will have 9 seats, and the “Designation” alliance will have 5 seats.
