[size=45][You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan revealed, on Tuesday, its intention to file an appeal to the Federal Court regarding the decision of the Speaker of Parliament to open the door for candidacy for the position of President of the Republic for the second time, while renewing its position on continuing its support for Barham Salih for the presidency.[/size]
[size=45]Party member Ghazi Kakai said, in a press statement (February 8, 2022), that “the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan is committed, and respects the constitutional texts and decisions of the Federal Court,” stressing that “the party supports the decisions of the Federal Court, and the more the court receives support, the more impartial its decisions will be. We also respect the decisions of the three authorities, provided that they are not of a political nature.”
He added, "We believe that Resolution No. 4 of 2022 is of a political nature, and the Presidency of the House of Representatives does not have the right to open the door for candidacy for the position of the Presidency of the Republic twice, in light of the presence of candidates who meet the constitutional and legal conditions."
He continued, "We had hoped that the constitutional institutions would not be a party to the political debates and disagreements. We believe that the position of the parliament presidency was illegal," noting that "the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan will file a complaint and appeal to the Federal Court regarding opening the candidacy for the presidency for the second time."
He explained that "in the event that the door for candidacy for the position of President of the Republic is opened or not, then Barham Salih will remain the party's candidate for the position, and we consider him a man of the stage and he has good political and patriotic positions."
Kakai said: "Iraq needs Barham Salih more than it needs Barham Salih for the position, and we will remain supportive of him to be President of the Republic for a second term."[/size]
[size=45]The Presidency of the House of Representatives decided, on Tuesday, to open the door for nomination for the Presidency of the Republic, starting tomorrow, for a period of three days.
And the presidency stated in a statement (February 8, 2022), that it "held a meeting to discuss the issue of electing the president of the republic, given the expiry of the constitutional period specified for the election under Article (72 / second / b) of the constitution without electing a president of the republic."[/size]
[size=45]The statement added that "based on the provisions of the Law No. 8 of 2012 on the nomination for the post of President of the Republic, it was decided during the meeting to open the door for nomination for the position of President of the Republic starting from Wednesday, February 9, 2022 for a period of (3) days."[/size]
