The National Internet Project announced, on Thursday, a three-year plan to reach four and a half million Internet users by the end of this year.
The Director General of the National Project in the Ministry, Muhammad Negm, said in a statement reported by the newspaper "Al-Sabah" and seen by "The Information", that "the project currently covers 385,000 lines, in a plan that began in 2021 and takes three years to reach 4 million and 500 thousand lines," referring to "The first phase is facing city centers through which two million and 800 thousand home lines can be reached, while the second stage will include one million and 700 thousand lines."
Najm added, "The ministry allowed the project to complete the contracting procedures with subcontractors with 39 contracts for each cabin, which were offered for investment for the purposes of establishing the final network and activating the service, as the number of users of each cabin ranges from 500-768 subscribers," expecting the service coverage to reach "one million and 500". 1,000 users and nearly 300,000 subscribers at the end of this year.
He explained, "The national project is being implemented in stages, starting with the backbone, and ending with the stage of delivering the optical cable to the house, which is known as the last mile stage, as the network entered all provinces except for the Kurdistan region, with a border site with the Turkish side in Kurdistan." That "the stage of service access to the user included all governorates except for Maysan, Anbar and Karbala, due to obstacles related to the approvals of service institutions there." finished/25
