    Baghdad - Ia'a
, a member of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, Mahdi Abdul-Karim, revealed that a close meeting of the party will be held to discuss the exclusion of its leader, Hoshyar Zebari, from running for the post of President of the Republic, at a time when he did not rule out opening the door for dialogue with the Patriotic Union to agree on a consensual candidate.
A member of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, Mahdi Abdul Karim, told Al-Iraqiya News, followed by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "the Democrat has expressed on several occasions his respect for the decisions of the Federal Court, but the decision to exclude Zebari was a political right for an important political stature."
He added, "The withdrawal of confidence from Zebari during his tenure as Minister of Finance does not condemn him because it was a political move against the background of rivalries and tension in the relationship between the center and the region, and he was acquitted of the files that were filed against him."
He stressed that "the House of Representatives should extend the period for applying for the position of the President of the Republic, which ended today, to allow the opportunity to present an alternative by the Kurdistan Democratic Party, which will have a meeting of its political office within the next twenty-four hours to deliberate on this file."
He pointed out that "the Democratic Party has experienced personalities who are able to assume the position of President of the Republic, and an alternative may be nominated, and it is up to the Democratic Party."
Regarding the possibility of negotiations between the Democratic Party and the National Union to agree on a consensual candidate, Abdul Karim said, “Everything is possible in politics, and there was a visit to the head of the Union Party, Pavel Talabani, to the head of the Democratic Party, Massoud Barzani, two days ago. Replacing Barham Salih as a rival candidate or introducing a figure who enjoys the consensus of the Kurds."
He continued, "We believe that if there is a door for negotiation, it may open within two days with the Union, but on the terms of the Democratic Party, and the party agreed with the Sadrist movement and the Sovereignty Alliance to support its candidate for the presidency, and he will be a candidate for the tripartite alliance between these parties."
Earlier, the Federal Court decided to exclude Zebari from running for the post of President of the Republic.
The leader of the Kurdistan Democratic Party declared his respect for the judiciary's decision to exclude him from running for the presidency.
Zebari said in a press conference held today and attended by the correspondent of the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "today is a sad day for Iraq, for which we strived to be a state of justice," noting that "we were surprised by the decision of the Federal Court of our right to nominate for the presidency."
He added, "We respect the judiciary's decision, and it is my right as an Iraqi citizen to say that there is injustice," noting that "the laws and conditions required for the presidency of the republic were in our eyes, and we are not strangers to the political process."
He continued, "When we were nominated to the presidency, we fulfilled all the conditions and we have official books from the bodies that approved our candidacy," explaining that "there are four MPs, three of whom are opponents of the National Union."
He stressed, "We closed all the accusations, we have a great service for the country and we have served it with all sincerity and good behavior," pointing out that "the decision of the Federal Court is politicized and it is my right as a citizen to nominate."
