Today, Monday, the First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hakim Al-Zamili, Hakim Al-Zamili, called on Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi, to take urgent action to determine the reasons for the significant rise in flour prices, and its direct impact on the purchasing power and living situation of people with low incomes.
In an official letter directed to the government, Al-Zamili called for developing realistic and thoughtful solutions to address the causes of the price hike by urging the Federal Ministry of Trade to amend the mechanism, the flow of grain to the mills, the distribution of the ration every month instead of (45) days, and directing the authorities concerned with economic and food security By investigating the reasons for the rise in prices and holding manipulators and negligent accountable, in addition to developing an urgent plan by the Ministry of Commerce in coordination with government and private mills to provide flour to cover the needs of the local market, as well as developing a strategic vision by the Ministries of Agriculture and Water Resources to increase the areas cultivated for wheat and provide full support for farmers.
A member of the Presidency stressed the need to give the issue a top priority as it affects the people's livelihood, and to work seriously to address the causes of high prices, warning at the same time of a major crisis that may result in the event of negligence in the matter as a result of citizens' discontent with it.
