On Wednesday, February 23, 2022, the Federal Court announced the postponement of the decision on the re-opening of the candidacy for the presidency of the Republic.

The court decided to postpone the case to the beginning of next March
The House of Representatives announced a list of 33 candidates for the presidency, most notably: Barham Salih (the candidate of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, the current president of the republic), and Reber Khaled (the candidate of the Kurdistan Democratic Party led by Massoud Barzani).

A court statement, carried by the official agency, stated that it had postponed deciding the case against the parliament's presidency "to the first of the beginning of next month."
Representative Basem Khashan - one of the advocates - said that "the Presidency of the House of Representatives violated the constitution and worked hard with a clear constitutional article that is not subject to jurisprudence on the origin of the text."
And local agencies quoted the parliament speaker's lawyer inside the court as saying: "If the next session fails to choose the president of the republic, we will open the door for nomination for the third time."
The Federal Court held its deliberative session this morning in the appeal of the decision to open the door for nomination for the post of President of the Republic twice.
Parliament’s decision raised legal controversy again after the constitutional period expired without the parliament meeting to vote on the twenty-five candidates who met the parliamentary conditions, but the parliament did not have a quorum to vote on them, an argument that the parliament’s presidency relied on to open the door for candidacy again.
