In the wake of the Ukraine war, Iraq lays down months-long plans to provide basic materials and goods
Shafaq News/ The Minister of Industry and Minerals Manal Aziz al-Khabbaz directed, on Wednesday, to prepare long-term plans that will last for months to support local products of basic commodities and materials that enter into the daily needs of the population.
This came during his holding today an extensive meeting in the presence of the Undersecretary for Planning Affairs, the scientific advisor, general managers in all departments of the ministry’s center and some general formations to discuss and prepare clear plans of economic feasibility according to a detailed and accurate information base to remedy the effects of the current global crisis and advance the reality of companies during the next stage.
During the meeting, the minister stressed the need to develop constructive and economically feasible plans that provide for the market's needs and requirements based on the directives of the Prime Minister and in light of the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine.
The baker directed the preparation and development of plans for 3 months and others for 6 months that are based on scientific and technical foundations in a precise manner to support local products, especially foodstuffs, construction materials and medicines, as they affect the lives of citizens, as well as setting possible mechanisms to support and preserve these products by activating product and consumer protection laws and tariffs customs and others.
The minister also directed the formation of a committee headed by the scientific advisor and a number of general managers to reconsider the prices with the Ministry of Agriculture to purchase the ministry’s products represented by all kinds of fertilizers, agricultural harvesters, greenhouses and others, in order to provide full support to the Iraqi farmer, in addition to reviewing investment contracts and operating suspended factories.
Yesterday, Tuesday, the Iraqi Council of Ministers decided to cancel all decisions issued regarding product protection related to the ban on the import of foodstuffs, consumer goods and medicines and to allow the import of the aforementioned materials for a period of three months, and to reconsider their ban or permission to import them after examining the developments of the crisis.
