Earth News/ Legal expert Faisal Rikan warned, today, Saturday, the House of Representatives of many problems in the event of exceeding the constitutional deadlines for the election of the President of the Republic and the formation of the government.
Rikan said in an interview with Earth News, "In the event of a lack of a quorum today, the parliament session will not be held to elect the president of the republic and may not be held for any other reason," noting that "the parliament has another 10 days before exceeding the constitutional period for electing the president of the republic." .
Rikan explained that “Articles 67 to 75 of the Iraqi constitution stipulated how to elect the president, the quorum, the powers granted, etc., and in the event the position is vacant, what can the House of Representatives act on because the President of the Republic is the key to forming the government and forming the country’s executive body.”
And the legal expert indicated that “the failure of the Council of Representatives to elect the President of the Republic within the legal or constitutional period stipulated in the Iraqi constitution may expose the Council to many problems, including that the Federal Court will be the arbiter in deciding whether or not to hold sessions of the Council of Representatives, given that the one who gave legitimacy to the Council Representatives are the Federal Court by ratifying the election results.”
Rikan stressed the need for “the House of Representatives to finish the file of the Presidency of the Republic during the coming period, and it has another 10 days when the session does not take place today, Saturday.”
And the Earth News correspondent reported, earlier today, that deputies of the Sadrist bloc, the Sovereignty Alliance, and representatives of the Democratic Party had arrived at the parliament building.
The House of Representatives was scheduled to hold its fourth session at 11 am this morning, whose agenda includes the election of a President of the Republic.
