Erbil is “threatened” in conjunction with a Kurdish-Kurdish agreement, and the security of Kurdistan warns the aggressors: You will pay a heavy price

Baghdad / Tamim Al-Hassan
A new wave of threats was directed at the parties to the tripartite alliance, a day after a Kurdish-Kurdish meeting, which was considered to pave the way for defusing the political crisis that has been going on for more than 7 months.
And a statement incited what is known as the "Iraqi resistance" against the Kurdistan region, after allegations that the latter trained "subversive groups" with the support of Israel.
The statement issued by a group of armed factions accused, for the first time, a high-ranking government figure in the region for sponsoring these supposed groups.
Immediately after the statement was issued, the Kurdistan Region Security Council commented on the Coordination, warning that any "aggression" against the region would have a "heavy price."
The statement of what it calls itself the "resistance" came after a series of accusations issued by Shiite forces against Kurdistan, of the latter's dealings with Tel Aviv and the presence of Mossad headquarters inside the region.
According to political sources who spoke to Al-Mada, "it is not possible to separate what was stated in the statement and the positions of some political forces opposed to the tripartite alliance."
Those sources indicated, "What happened is a new chapter of threats to the coalition parties, after Iran's missiles and the attempt to arm tribes in Anbar to stand against Parliament Speaker Muhammad al-Halbousi."
A statement by the so-called "Coordination Committee of the Iraqi Resistance" stated that it "observed training operations for armed groups in the Kurdistan region of Iraq under the auspices of the Prime Minister of the Regional Government, Masrour Barzani."
The authority stated that it had "detected suspicious movements from internal tools to foreign agents whose aim is to spread chaos with clear Zionist fingerprints."
The commission warned the Kurdistan authorities that "their efforts to ignite the fire will return to them and burn them before others."
Last March, Iran announced targeting what it said were "Mossad headquarters" with 12 "ballistic" missiles in Erbil, which eventually fell on civilian buildings.
A parliamentary committee set up to investigate the incident confirmed, last month, that there was no Israeli activity in the regional capital, and that the missiles targeted the home of a businessman.
In turn, Muhsin al-Saadoun, a former deputy from the Kurdistan Democratic Party, considered that the statement of the "Coordination Committee" appeared to complicate the political crisis.
Al-Saadoun said in an interview with Al-Mada, "Since this group has previous statements related to political affairs, it must first reveal itself publicly and not throw the accusations arbitrarily."
A week ago, the "Commission" had published a statement warning of the danger of continuing the political blockage, and called for dialogue between the various forces.
Al-Saadoun added: "Many politicians and stakeholders do not know who this body is and what its objectives are," noting that "the timing of the statement coincided with a breakthrough in Kurdistan and the imminent launch of an initiative by the President of the Democratic Party, Massoud Barzani, to solve the political crisis."
And last Sunday, the President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, met with leaders of the Patriotic Union and other Kurdish parties in Sulaymaniyah, for the first time in 4 months.
Some leaks had considered that the Kurdish-Kurdish agreement might harm the “coordination framework”; Because it will increase the seats of the "trio" front.
Most political forces view the convergence of the two main Kurdish parties as ending half of the government formation node, as it is hoped that the two parties will agree on one candidate for the presidency, which in turn will assign the candidate of the largest bloc to form the government.
Mohsen al-Saadoun considered the allegations of the presence of "armed groups" inside Erbil as "false accusations" against Kurdistan.
Al-Saadoun added, "The Kurdish movement has not assaulted anyone and has never formed an assassination force against any political party," noting that the "Coordination Committee" statement is "a threat to all of Iraq, not Kurdistan alone."
For its part, the Security Council in the Kurdistan region confirmed that it knows who is behind the group that issued the latest statement.
The council said in a statement, that "the suspicious group made a number of baseless accusations and threats against the Kurdistan region."
The Council warned: “Any aggression against the Kurdistan region, which is a constitutional entity in Iraq, will have a heavy price. They did not learn from history, otherwise they would have known that a larger and more heavily armed force cannot break the will of our people.”
"These outlaw groups constitute a threat to the sovereignty and security of Iraq, and have paved the way for the growth of terrorism and extremist ideology," the council's statement went on.
"The Iraqi army and the Peshmerga are working together against the terrorists, and these groups are involved in conspiracies, chaos and destruction," he said.
"The federal government is responsible for protecting Iraqi sovereignty and stopping these hostilities," the statement concluded.
Who is the "Resistance Coordination"?
In February of last year, the Pentagon announced that 14 missiles targeted a US base in Erbil, 4 of which hit buildings, killing a civilian contractor and wounding 5 Americans, including a soldier.
A group calling itself "Awliya Al-Dam Brigades" adopted the attack, describing it as a "qualitative" operation and a "fatal" blow against "the American occupation, as we approached its base by a distance of 7 kilometers."
Erbil, in turn, showed, about a month after the incident, video confessions of a person presented as one of the perpetrators of the attack, and the latter revealed for the first time who he belonged to.
The person, Haider Hamza Al-Bayati, 37, who hails from the village of Qardagh in the Hamdaniya district, east of Mosul, appeared as he made his confession during a video clip published by the Counter-Terrorism Service in the Kurdistan Region.
According to Al-Bayati's confessions, the attack was carried out on the instructions of the "Brigades of Sayyid Al-Shuhada" - one of the formations of the crowd - led by Abu Ala' Al-Walai, before the latter denied these accusations.
The Kurdistan Counter-Terrorism Service said at the time that "the number of the main perpetrators of the attack was 4 people, one of whom was arrested, called Haider al-Bayati."
The "Abu Ala'a al-Wala'i" faction is one of the signatories to a document that first appeared in the media in April 2020, comprising a group of 8 parties that called themselves "resistance factions" at the time.
It included the adopters of the document (which at the time attacked the Prime Minister-designate to succeed the resigned government of Adel Abdul-Mahdi, Adnan Al-Zarfi, and the American forces), along with the Sayyid al-Shuhada Brigades, Asa’ib Ahl al-Haq, Saraya Ashour, Imam Ali Brigades, the Al-Awfaa movement, the Jund al-Imam movement, the movement Al-Nujaba, and Saraya Al-Khorasani - all of which are within the Hashd formations.
The document came days after a series of statements issued for the first time by a party that called itself the "Coordination Committee of the Iraqi Resistance", which was adopting a similar discourse to the previous eight forces.
That group attacked the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, against the background of his decision in January 2020 to give a “truce” until the US forces at that time fulfilled their pledge to leave at the end of last 2021 (and the government announced at the end of last year the exit of all American combat forces from Iraq).
He was surprised at the time by those who became known as "Al-Sadr's Minister", Salih Muhammad Al-Iraqi, whom he called "those who mix contracting with the resistance" in his response to those who criticized the "al-Sadr truce."
According to leaks that reached Al-Mada, "The Coordination Committee may add the Hezbollah Brigades to the group of eight factions."
These leaks indicated that “most of the parties to the coordination framework are represented within this body, so that the names are similar,” referring to the convergence of the names “coordinating framework” and “coordinating body for the resistance.”
In May 2020, the unknown "Coordination Committee" had announced the organization of demonstrations in Baghdad to support the "Palestinian factions" in Gaza, and during the gathering, Nasr Al-Shammari, the spokesman for Al-Nujaba, gave a speech, and next to him stood Muhammad Muhyi, the spokesman for the Hezbollah Brigades.
It was defined at the time that the text that Al-Shammari had read was the statement of the “Coordination Committee for the Iraqi Resistance.” At that time, Al-Ittijah channel, affiliated with Kata’ib Hezbollah, referred to the statement as belonging to the “Coordination.”
