US agency: Tehran threatened an unprecedented attack on the Kurdistan region

An American agency revealed that Iran threatened Iraq with a ground military attack if the army did not improve the borders, warning that this attack would be unprecedented and would leave regional repercussions.
The Associated Press reported in a report, “according to Iraqi officials, that a prominent Iranian military official – who visited Baghdad recently – threatened to launch a ground military operation in northern Iraq if the Iraqi army did not fortify the common border between the two countries, to prevent the infiltration of Iranian Kurdish opposition groups.”
The report added, "The attack, if launched by Iranian forces, would be unprecedented in Iraq, and would raise the specter of regional repercussions from internal unrest in Iran."
He pointed out, "The warning was handed over to Iraqi officials in Baghdad by the commander of the Quds Force (of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards) Ismail Qaani, who arrived last Monday in Baghdad on an unannounced visit that lasted for two days."
The report confirmed, "Qaani's visit came one day after an Iranian missile attack targeted a base of the Iranian Kurdish opposition in Erbil, killing 3 people."
He pointed out, "Tehran accuses opposition groups based in the Iraqi Kurdistan region of inciting anti-government protests in Iran and smuggling weapons into the country."
And the report stated, "Qaani met with Prime Minister Muhammad Shia' al-Sudani, other leaders of the Coordination Framework Coalition, and the new President Abdul Latif Rashid, in addition to leaders of the Iraqi armed factions."
And he continues, “Qaani’s demands consisted of two parts,” disarming the groups opposing Iran in the Kurdistan region, and fortifying the borders to prevent infiltration.
The report stressed that, last week, commenting on the attacks launched by Tehran on the Kurdistan region, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said that it would not tolerate Iran's border security.
And he added, "The Iranian Foreign Ministry confirmed that its response came after Baghdad and the Kurdistan region did not take measures to confront the threats, blaming the Iraqi government for preventing the destabilization of Iran's security from within its territory."
The report added, "The UN mission in Iraq condemned the Iranian attacks on Iraqi Kurdistan, considering that they violate Iraqi sovereignty, and stressed that common security concerns between Iraq and Iran must be resolved through dialogue."
And he continues, "The American ambassador to Baghdad expressed the same position, as she condemned the attacks and called on Tehran to stop them, stressing that they are attacks that violate Iraq's sovereignty."
The report quotes, according to "the Iranian Fars News Agency, which stated that the Iranian attacks are only the first stage of an Iranian military attack on the groups' sites in the Kurdistan region."
And the report went on, "The Department of Land Relations in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard had announced - earlier - the launch of operations targeting sites in the Kurdistan region of Iraq, and said that it would continue this process decisively until the threat is effectively repelled and the strongholds of terrorist groups are dismantled."
