Shafaq News/ German Chancellor Olaf Scholz called, on Friday, on Iraq to contribute to supplying the world with gas, in light of the shortage in the West due to the Russian-Ukrainian war.
This came in a joint press conference held by the German Chancellor today with Prime Minister Mohamed Shia'a Al-Sudani, following a round of talks held between the two sides in Berlin.

Olaf Scholz said during the conference, "We have reached a strategic decision that in the coming years we want to ensure energy safety in Germany. We had to open 20 gas stations to ensure energy security because Russian gas has stopped suddenly," stressing that "we want to benefit from Western countries." In gas, to raise capabilities, and it falls within our intensive construction to preserve liquefied gas.”
The German Chancellor also pointed out that "there is a great need for gas, not only in Germany but also in other countries," adding that "among our mission is to contribute to the infrastructure for the import of gas in our ports and to be a transit country."
And he went on to say: We must invest a lot and not talk about space capabilities. There must be sufficient capabilities and we benefit from various imports, unlike in the past," noting that "Iraq may be a partner we wish to invest a lot of gas and oil."
The German chancellor also said, "We seek renewable energy, and for the country to be carbon-neutral in the year 2025."
For his part, Al-Sudani said during the conference, "Iraq is an important country in the field of energy, whether in terms of oil or gas, and it seeks within OPEC to meet the needs of the global market in a way that secures the interests of producers and consumers."
He added, "We have ambitious plans to invest in associated gas that is burned daily, and to invest in natural gas, and we have large and important energy reserves," explaining that "these plans are hoped to contribute to meeting the needs of the local market, and we offered these opportunities to German companies to invest in this sector."
