Today, Wednesday, the Parliamentary Legal Committee confirmed the completion of the formulation of 95% of the government’s budget articles and paragraphs, while pointing out that Parliament will not make major amendments to its text to speed up its approval, and pointed out that what deputies are asking about its numbers is inaccurate and nothing more than expectations.
A member of the legal committee, Aref al-Hamami, said, "The delay in sending the budget by the government aims to ensure its full readiness, especially since there are continuous changes in the price of oil and the exchange rate of the dollar in the market."
He added, "The file of the Kurdistan region's share in the budget and coordination between Baghdad and Erbil regarding it also takes time, and we do not believe it is an obstacle, and according to our information, 95% of the budget files have been completed."
On the date of the government's draft budget reaching Parliament, Al-Hamami said, "We expect that the issue will not last more than a month, according to our extrapolations. In the event that it comes to Parliament, we believe that its amendments, if any, will be simple and not major, so that voting on them will not be delayed."
Regarding the budget figures, the member of the Parliamentary Legal Committee said, "The budget is still in the process of being prepared by the government, and no numbers can be published because it is subject to modification and change. What MPs propose is nothing more than expectations, not real numbers."
He pointed out that "Parliament stresses the need for the budget to support what was mentioned in the government program in terms of support for the private sector, agriculture, industry and infrastructure projects, meaning that it be a budget for projects and a program, not just spending."
On the course of today's session, Al-Hamami said, "Today, a vote was taken to restructure all parliamentary committees after new MPs entered in place of those who resigned to Parliament. Today, MPs have merged into basic and supportive committees, meaning that the MP should be a member of two committees to ensure that there is a sufficient number of MPs in each." A committee".
