A breakthrough in the gasoline crisis in Dhi Qar after preparing 80% of the stations

Dhi Qar / Hussein Al-Amel
Yesterday, Saturday, the fuel crisis in Dhi Qar Governorate witnessed signs of a breakthrough after announcing that 80% of the stations had been equipped with the required quantities, and officials attributed its reasons to the closure of the oil depot by graduates demanding appointment in institutions. And the queues of vehicles began to decrease significantly in front of the gas stations after they closed their doors for several hours and were crowded with vehicles due to the scarcity of fuel or its non-availability.
The director of the Oil Products Distribution Company in Dhi Qar, Qassem Saber Yusr, said in a statement to (Al-Mada) that, “The Petroleum Products Distribution Company was ready to supply the stations with the prescribed quantities of fuel and has large storage.”
Yusr added, "The only obstacle was the gathering of graduates protesting in front of the processing warehouse, which prevented the arrival of the product from the warehouse to the gas stations."
And he pointed out, “The closure of the warehouse and the oil products company by the sit-ins began on the first of this month, and that they issued a statement on Thursday night to allow the entry and exit of tanks to the warehouse, and they withdrew as a result.
Yusr affirmed that “the company is currently operating at its maximum capacity to supply fuel stations,” and talked about “equipping 80% of the 64 stations,” expecting “the crisis to completely resolve within the next few hours.” He pointed out, "Dealing with the sit-ins and their demands is a matter related to the local government and the company has nothing to do with that, and until the present time we do not know whether they will continue the sit-in or not." The graduates protesting in front of the Petroleum Products Distribution Company in Dhi Qar had opened the gate to prepare the tanks in the oil depot and allow their entry and exit, after they gave the local and central governments a few days to meet their demands of providing employment opportunities for the unemployed graduates.
It is noteworthy that hundreds of graduates (at the beginning of February) closed a number of oil facilities in Dhi Qar Governorate to demand appointment, which led to the cessation of oil products processing operations from the pumping depot, while other graduates with the same demands gathered in front of the governorate office. This is due to the failure of negotiations between representatives of the local government and the alumni associations, who are demanding appointments in the oil departments in the province.
During the past few days, the cities of Dhi Qar governorate witnessed a suffocating fuel crisis caused by the scarcity of gasoline in most of the civil and government filling stations.
Local sources said, "The gas stations are crowded with long lines of vehicles, waiting for their owners for several hours to inform their turn of preparation." The sources confirmed to (Al-Mada) that “some stations were closed due to the inability to supply them from the oil depot.”
Dhi Qar governorate is witnessing a fuel crisis from time to time, as it witnessed a suffocating crisis in late June of last year, which broke out after the security forces announced the seizure of a number of tanks and the arrest of traffickers and monopolists, while observers attributed the causes of that crisis, which lasted for a week, to the reduction of the share of the province. From fuel to the panic of vehicle owners from its aggravation.
Several years ago, Dhi Qar governorate witnessed a series of demonstrations and sit-ins led by unemployed and earning graduates to demand job opportunities, employment in government departments, or inclusion in the social protection network grant, which included cutting bridges, closing a number of government departments, and acts of violence and friction with security forces.
Dhi Qar governorate, which has a population of more than two million and 300 thousand people and includes 22 administrative units, faces a growing problem in high unemployment rates, especially among graduates, as unemployment rates are estimated at more than 50 percent among that segment, according to unofficial estimates.
In the middle of last month, hundreds of contract and wage workers working for the Ur State Company for Engineering Industries in Dhi Qar closed the doors of the company to demand confirmation and ministerial contracts within the permanent staffing, while dozens of wage workers and graduates demonstrated in front of the municipality and oil products departments to demand appointment.
