Shafaq News/ The Iraqis were very happy with the government and the central bank announcing a reduction in the price of the dollar to below its official price set about two years ago, but it seems that merchants have another opinion that is not affected by the state's decisions, as food prices are still high and the reduction affected only a few items and by a relative difference. It hardly changes anything about the "high price".

Abu Sajjad, a food trader in "Jamila" market, the largest food market in the capital, Baghdad, said in an interview with Shafaq News Agency, "The decrease in the price of the dollar during the past week led to a decline in the prices of basic foodstuffs such as rice, oil and paste, but sugar did not Affected by the rise of the dollar and maintained its price.
And he explains that "the price of a box of rice - containing 20 bags weighing a kilogram per bag of rice - decreased to 40 thousand dinars, after it was at a price of 44 thousand dinars, while a bag of rice type (Mahmoud) weighing 30 kilograms decreased to 64 thousand dinars after it was at a price of 68 A thousand dinars, and rice (the cart) weighing 20 kilograms has become a price of 49,000 dinars, after it was sold for 54,000 dinars.
Abu Sajjad shows that “tomato paste of two types (Altunsa, Wazir) decreased the price of the box (12 cans) from 36,000 dinars to 33,000 dinars, just as the box of oil type (Zir 20 packages of 825 milliliters) has now decreased to 42,000 dinars after it was At a price of 48 thousand dinars.
He continued by saying that "drinks and juices were not affected by the dollar prices, except for the soft drinks of the (Baghdad) company, whose prices were raised in advance before the dollar price hike," pointing out that "the sweets from the satellite were not affected much by the decrease in the dollar price, and their average prices decreased by only 250 dinars per box." ".
It is noteworthy that the prices of foodstuffs have risen dramatically with the rise in dollar prices during the last period, and despite the reduction in the price of the dollar by the Central Bank of Iraq and the Iraqi government, some items have not decreased in price.
It should be noted that the rise in the price of foodstuffs under the pretext of the rise in the price of the dollar in the "black market" markets does not justify raising prices because the importing merchants get the dollar from the Central Bank of Iraq at its official rate and not from the local stock exchange.
