    Baghdad Today - Follow-up
The head of the Amman and Jordan Chambers of Industry, Eng. Fathi Al-Jaghbir, affirmed that there are great opportunities to enter wide industries needed by the Iraqi market.
In a statement to the Jordanian newspaper Al-Ghad, on the sidelines of a meeting organized by the Jordan Chamber of Industry yesterday, Al-Jaghbir mentioned the most important products that have a great opportunity to enter the Iraqi market, foremost of which are food industries, fertilizers, medicines, plastics, constructions, textiles and leather, constructions and building materials, in addition to Furniture upholstery and packaging in paper and metal.
He stressed that the Jordanian and Iraqi private sectors are facing a new phase of work on a complementary basis (win-win), not competitive, and the establishment of joint projects that benefit both countries.
He pointed out that the Jordan Chamber of Industry will work during the coming period to organize sectoral visits to Iraq in order to explore the opportunities available to the national industry and build trade relations from the Iraqi side.
Al-Jaghbir pointed to the importance of the Jordanian-Iraqi business forum, which was held in Baghdad last week, as it enabled the private sector to reach understandings that would establish complementary relations between the two countries in light of the state of security and stability that neighboring Iraq is experiencing today and the various projects that it intends to implement.
And he indicated that many Jordanian companies have made investments inside Iraq and were able to achieve successes, praising the efforts of the Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply, Youssef Al-Shamali, his Iraqi counterpart, and the Iraqi Business Council in Amman in order to establish complementary relations with Iraq.
He referred to many trade and economic agreements and memorandums of understanding between Jordan and Iraq, which contribute to framing and enabling fraternal and friendly relations between the governments of the two countries and their leaders.
Al-Jaghbir stressed the need to remove all obstacles facing the intra-trade movement between Jordan and Iraq, whether in customs or non-customs matters, in addition to moving forward with the implementation of projects adopted within the joint tripartite economic integration project (Jordan, Iraq, Egypt) in addition to supporting the participation of the Jordanian private sector. Specifically the industrial sector in the reconstruction projects of Iraq.
For his part, the Vice President of the Jordan Chamber of Industry, Muhammad Walid Al-Jaitan, referred to the most important understandings that took place on the sidelines of the meetings held in Baghdad, the most important of which is providing the Kingdom with customs tariff schedules to align them with the Jordanian customs tariff to facilitate trade exchange operations, especially for Jordanian goods that are exempted from Iraqi customs duties.
Al-Jitan, who also holds the position of representative of the food industries sector in the Jordan Chamber of Industry, said that it was also agreed to nominate a liaison officer from both countries at the governmental level in order to solve any problems that impede the process of trade exchange and establish joint projects between the two countries, in addition to emphasizing the importance of adopting a certificate Conformity to the Jordanian products issued by the Institution for Standards and Metrology.
He pointed to other understandings related to the establishment of a Jordanian-Iraqi business council that includes all economic sectors and the establishment of a commercial center for Iraqi industry in Amman and another for Jordanian industries in Baghdad to activate trade exchange between the two countries.
A representative of a bank in Iraq, Ayman Abu Adhim, confirmed that there are great opportunities for Jordanian products to enter the Iraqi market and compete in it.
Abu Adhim presented the procedures and mechanisms for financial transfers and the opening of credits to increase trade exchange between the two countries, in addition to the measures taken by the Iraqi government to stabilize the exchange rate of the Iraqi dinar against the US dollar, which results in controlling imbalances in the exchange market.
The value of trade exchange between Jordan and Iraq during the first 11 months of last year increased by 70% to reach 707 million dinars, compared to about 415 million dinars for the same period in 2012.
Jordan exports many products to the Iraqi market, the most important of which are vegetables and fruits, cheese, milk, eggs, live chicken and boneless meat, laundry preparations, medicines, electric cables, paper napkins, paper pulp, feed concentrates, plastic pipes and tubes, plastic articles, and angles of Iron and food preparations. The Kingdom also imports many products from the Iraqi market, including crude oil and oils, straw, grains and various fruits, dried dates, pistachios, organic chemical products, dyes and surface coloring materials, furniture and unalloyed aluminum.
