A member of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, Wafaa Karim, confirmed today, Monday, that the Kurdistan region will abide by the 2023 budget agreement regarding handing over the oil file and handing it over to the federal government.
Karim told (Baghdad Today) that "the Kurdistan region will abide by the budget agreement, including the delivery of 400,000 barrels of oil to the federal government, which is the amount of oil exports to the region."
He added, "The region has no problem with oil delivery, but on the condition that the federal government abide by all the agreement and not be subject to political desires that do not want Baghdad and Erbil to reach a final agreement."
It is noteworthy that the central and regional governments agreed that the last percentage of the 2023 budget would be 12.67%, while the regional government was firm on its position regarding its share, which amounts to 17% of the general budget.
Where disputes are renewed every period between the two governments over a number of files, including oil and gas, the salaries of the Peshmerga, and the dues of the Kurdish component, in addition to the need to legislate the oil and gas law within the dome of parliament.
The share of the Kurdistan region, the salaries of the Peshmerga forces, the oil and gas law, and other problems are a renewed obstacle whenever negotiations begin to prepare the annual general federal budget, and it usually ends with an agreement between the political blocs that leads to passing the budget law in the Council of Ministers and then sending it to the House of Representatives for approval.
