    However, the report stated that the failure to define enforced disappearance as a crime in Iraqi law stands in the way of this, while the spokesperson for the Iraqi government or the Ministry of Interior did not make any comment.

    The disappearance continued after the US-led invasion in 2003 and saw the arrest of at least 200,000 Iraqis, about half of whom were held in prisons run by the US or [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.].

    And the committee added, "There are rumors that the detainees were arrested without a judicial warrant for their involvement in rebellion, while others were 'civilians who were in the wrong place at the wrong time'."
