    Economy News-Baghdad
The Norwegian company, Scatec, based in the Norwegian capital, Oslo, withdrew from negotiations to develop two ambitious solar energy projects in Iraq, in a heavy blow to the government's recent efforts to take advantage of the potential of renewable energy.
Both Iraqi officials and the private sector considered that the "Scatec" deal would have set a precedent in making Iraq adapt to the company's commercial and regulatory frameworks and thus integrate with the global standards imposed by the major international solar energy companies, but the excessive government bureaucracy frustrated these ambitions. .
Two senior Iraqi officials, in addition to the Norwegian company itself, confirmed that the company had withdrawn from the ongoing negotiations with the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity related to plans to build and operate two solar energy fields in southern Iraq with a total generating capacity of 525 megawatts.
An official at the Iraqi Oil Ministry familiar with the project said, "The main reason for the withdrawal is the slow procedures that were taken by the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity, as they were not specific, in addition to the fact that the legal legislation on solar energy was not sufficiently clear. These delays and slow procedures It made the company go back."
"Solar energy projects are somewhat new to the government, so it will take time to process the legislation," he added.
