Shafaq News/ Iraq revived, on Saturday, the annual conference of the "Islamic Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women" in its 15th edition, in an official ceremony attended by the four presidents, the UN envoy, and a crowd of representatives of Arab and foreign missions in Baghdad, amid emphasis on the importance of women's role in building society and preserving On its cohesion, and calls for action to secure women's rights.
During his participation in the celebration, Prime Minister Muhammad al-Sudani announced: "We launched a campaign (16) days to combat violence against women, which takes multiple forms related to physical, psychological and spiritual violence by coercing and depriving them of their right to education, or preventing them from possessing leadership in administrative positions." or make them prey to poverty and need.”

The 16-day campaign will be launched on (November 25, 2023), which coincides with (International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women), and this campaign will end on (December 10, 2023), which coincides with International Human Rights Day, according to university professor Dr. Bushra Al-Obeidi, stating that "the aim of this period is to alert that the elimination of violence against women achieves and promotes the goals of human rights in the world."
Al-Obaidi explained, during her interview with Shafaq News agency, that "a period of (16) days is to intensify activities in it, in order to strengthen any procedure, work or legislation that contributes to eliminating violence against women," adding, "But they are just dreams, because every year we hope that This year is better than the last, but it turns out to be worse than the last."
She points out that "Sayyid al-Hakim's initiative to allocate the first of zero for the (Islamic Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women) is to warn that the Islamic religion denounces violence against women, since some rely on erroneous interpretations of some Quranic verses to justify violence against them."
According to government statistics, 86 percent of violence against women is domestic, followed by economic violence. Al-Obeidi explains this by saying: “Whoever seizes her salary or private money, deprives her, or forces her to give up her inheritance, it is violence, or she does not have a financial source, which is in itself Violence too, because she will accept humiliation because she has no other source of livelihood.
