The Parliamentary Health Committee stated that the Ministry of Health does not have specialized staff to treat drug addicts, in addition to that there are very few drug clinics and most of them are dilapidated, warning that the Drug Law and the Ministry of Health’s protocol in this regard need to be updated to confront this dangerous phenomenon.
A member of the committee, Bassem Al-Gharabi, said in an interview with “Al-Sabah”: So far, no plans have been drawn up to end this phenomenon, which requires the concerted efforts of all in the country by the Ministries of Interior and Health and civil society organizations, noting that it is one of the most noticeable things through Previous meetings and workshops showed that the number of sanatoriums is very small and most of their buildings are dilapidated and dilapidated, in addition to the lack of specialized staff to treat addicts.
He believed that there is no real treatment on the ground until the problem is eliminated, pointing out that the entry of drugs of all kinds is through smuggling.
Al-Gharabi criticized the failure to implement the recommendations approved in many workshops, conferences and committees held by Parliament to establish specialized centers and train national skills and competencies, in addition to intensifying lessons and media releases to get rid of this dangerous phenomenon.
Al-Gharabi pointed out that the Ministry of Health complains about the lack of specialized cadres in this field, in addition to the fact that the cadres trained outside the country also need more qualification, warning that the Ministry of Health's protocol needs to be updated, in addition to the anti-drug law itself. to update some of its texts
