The Ministry of Health granted preliminary approvals to establish 28 new factories for medicines and medical supplies as part of the project to localize the pharmaceutical industry.
The Minister of Health, Dr. Salih al-Hasnawi, told "Al-Sabah": The manufacture of medicine is one of the priorities of the government program within the economic axis, and its importance lies in the localization of the national industry and restoring the slogan "Made in Iraq."
He added that the resettlement project includes the manufacture of medicines and medical supplies and devices, as facilities are provided to drug manufacturers related to permits to open factories, grant final permits and customs facilities for entering raw materials, and contracting with the Ministry of Health in terms of prices and purchasing the national product.
Al-Hasnawi pointed out that the Ministry concluded about 654 contracts worth 377 billion dinars with the private sector, and there are 13 contracts under implementation with an amount of 83 billion dinars, in addition to obtaining preliminary approvals for the establishment of 28 new factories, while establishment licenses were granted for four new factories, with the opening of three Offline factories.
He explained that medicines currently represent a great opportunity for the private sector for the purpose of promoting their manufacture locally, pointing to the establishment of the most important factory for the production of medical supplies and surgical sutures for the first time in the country and production will start soon, in addition to the establishment of two factories, one of which started producing medical syringes (syringes), and another specialized in the production of devices. and was granted an establishment and production license.
Al-Hasnawi mentioned that most citizens want to buy foreign medicines and stay away from the local ones, despite the fact that all medicines are registered and the necessary checks are conducted for them, whether local or foreign, indicating that some medicines were purchased for millions of dollars, and are currently available in local production and high quality and at lower prices than their foreign counterparts
