    Today, Tuesday (August 29, 2023), the head of the Chambers of Commerce in Diyala Governorate, Muhammad Al-Tamimi, confirmed that the parallel market for selling dollars finances half of Iraq’s parties, while he made it clear that there are those who want the parallel market to remain because of its billion profits.
    Al-Tamimi said in an interview with "Baghdad Today", that "the Sudanese government is serious about correcting the country's economy by ending speculation in the market for selling hard currencies, including the dollar, which has been a financial bleeding for the economy for years due to the widespread smuggling rates in various ways."
    He added, "The parallel market is a source of funding for half of Iraq's parties through economic offices in different ways. Therefore, any decision taken to restore the exchange rate according to what the Central Bank determined, we are surprised by a crisis or rumors that push prices up every time."
    He pointed out that "there are those who want the parallel market to remain because of its billion profits, especially since the price difference and speculation contribute to earning huge amounts of money within days."
    And he continued, "Ending the dollarization file in the Iraqi markets must be a priority, because it reduces the demand for buying dollars, weakens speculation, and pushes for the stability of the exchange rate with a limited difference between the official and parallel price."
    Almost since the beginning of this year, the Central Bank of Iraq launched a working mechanism in an electronic platform and the international financial transfer system "SWIFT", but this did not help the dollar exchange rates to stabilize in Iraq, despite the attempts of the government and the central bank to control the exchange rate in the parallel (black) markets. ).
