Shafaq News/ Lebanese sources announced, on Saturday, that there are efforts to request that his country be exempted from $1.1 billion due to Iraq in exchange for the previous oil agreement, while this effort is met with strong opposition from active Iraqi parties.
The Lebanese "Nidaa Al Watan" agency stated, "This amount has not been paid to date according to the agreement signed in July 2021, for Lebanon to pay the price of the shipments in Lebanese pounds in Lebanon, according to the exchange rate, in exchange for services provided to the Iraqis."
The sources indicated, “There is talk behind the scenes and a narrow scope that has begun to circulate about requesting an exemption, noting that a new agreement will take effect in the next two months to supply Lebanon with another quantity of black oil amounting to 1.5 million metric tons, in accordance with the previously established mechanism, so that two substances will be replaced.” Gas oil and/or fuel oil, types (A) and (B) for the benefit of the Electricité du Liban, and the quantity provides power supply for 4 hours a day.”
