The Chairman of the Parliamentary Health Committee reported that the government has adopted a comprehensive plan to reform and restructure the health sector within the announced service program of Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani, while more than 500 billion dinars have been allocated for this purpose and the implementation of health projects has begun.
Dr. Majid Shankali told “Al-Sabah” about the details of the government’s plan to improve the health situation within its program prepared to improve the medical services provided to citizens, noting that the Sudanese government has allocated nearly 200 billion dinars to rehabilitate heart surgery centers and another 200 billion dinars to support cancer centers in Baghdad. And the rest of the governorates.
He noted the allocation of 150 billion dinars to implement the health insurance system, in addition to opening dozens of hospitals and rehabilitating lagging ones, namely Al-Sayyab in Basra, Al-Turki in Al-Amarah, and other hospitals in Baghdad Governorate, as they are currently being monitored for their opening during the coming period.
Shankali pointed out that over the course of a year of implementing the government’s service program to rehabilitate the health sector, approximately 1,400 beds were added to increase the capacity of hospitals, adding that the health system in Iraq needs to be completely restructured through steps, the most important of which is separating work between the private and public sectors and then The need to amend the medical progression law.
In addition to developing the health insurance system very significantly, as the services are provided in both the public or private sectors in exchange for wages in order to ensure the efficiency of those institutions and the service that is provided to citizens, stressing the adoption of a program to establish huge health projects to ensure the continuity of work and structure of the health sector through partnership. With the private sector, in addition to the plan’s inclusion of building hospitals that match foreign hospitals and within international standards, as in Basra, Amara, Babylon, and Najaf.
For his part, the political advisor to the Prime Minister, Fadi Al-Shammari, explained in a previous statement about the government’s intention to complete major projects in the field of the health sector, noting that the coming year will witness the opening of major hospitals under foreign management, as 4 hospitals will be transferred at the end of this year and 6 hospitals next year, in addition to A lot of capital wants to invest in Iraq provided that political, security and economic stability continues.
