    The Ministry of Water Resources expected that wheat production for the current winter season would reach six million and 500 thousand tons, in the event of expanding the areas allocated for growing the crop, which currently amount to five million and 500 thousand dunums.
    Minister Aoun Dhiab Abdullah said, “The ministry’s mission is to manage water to secure irrigation for agricultural lands in general after the drought that struck the country for four consecutive seasons,” revealing that the ministry’s plan, in coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture for the winter season, includes cultivating one million and 500 thousand dunams using surface water. And four million dunums, relying on groundwater.”
    He stressed that if there is an abundance of water due to heavy rainfall, there will be an expansion of the areas allocated for wheat for the current winter season, expecting the production of the crop to reach six million and 500 thousand tons at that time, similar to the amount produced in the last marketing season, in addition to adopting the cultivation of wheat as well.
