Specialists demand the enactment of laws regulating information technology

, specialists in information and communications technology, during a scientific symposium organized by the University of Babylon, called for the necessity of legislating special laws that regulate the operations of the information reality in the country in order to avoid many cyber breaches to which the movement of information and data may be exposed, due to their serious repercussions on the national security system.
The Dean of the College of Information Technology at the University of Babylon, Dr. Wissam Samir Bahia, said in a statement to “Al-Sabah”: The recommendations of the scientific symposium organized by the Information Security Department at the college entitled (Legislative Policy for National Cyber Security), during which three main axes were discussed, the first is the concept of national security and its dimensions, and the second The concept of cybersecurity. The third relates to mechanisms for protecting technology and information.
He stated that the symposium called for the adoption of legal legislation related to the protection of the user and data. It also witnessed the presentation of several laws, including local ones specific to the country and global ones related to data protection, and those related to all medical, industrial, and other matters related to the management of information technology technologies.
For his part, the head of the Information Security Department at the university, Dr. Ahmed Khalifa Obaid Al-Ajili, explained that cybersecurity has become part of all areas of life, which requires laws to regulate its work. There is currently no clear legislation in Iraqi law that protects information in the field of cybersecurity, calling for the importance of legislating Parliament has laws relating to this.
While the constitutional law teacher, Dr. Ali Fadel Ibrahim, stressed to “Al-Sabah” that there are dimensions to the danger of cyberspace, including political, social, and military. The political one is to preserve the political entity of the state in light of the widespread use of cyberspace, noting that the nature of cyberspace allows through blogs and networks. In particular, every citizen can express his political aspirations.
