    Baghdad today - Baghdad
Today, Sunday (March 31, 2024), the financial and economic expert, Saleh Al-Bankari, presented an economic vision for the situation in Iraq after the deficit rate in the 2024 budget rose to high rates .
The banker said in an interview with “Baghdad Today” that “the deficit is the result of external and internal debts, with operating expenses higher than investment expenses,” noting that “with the increase in oil prices, it was supposed to allocate part of the money to pay off debts and reduce their impact in order to pay the level of deficit to lower rates .  ”
He pointed out that "the appointments, in numbers that have reached tens of thousands, without real planning, will be a disaster for the state," wondering, "How will Baghdad pay salaries with any possible decline in oil selling prices in global markets?"
The financial expert confirmed, “The government has actually begun to change the approach to the economy and push the pace of activating the private sector to absorb more labor and reduce demand for state departments .  ”
He explained that "the large deficit affects all aspects of the state, including recruitment mechanisms, but the implementation of the Social Security Law will give greater flexibility to young people with the possibility of working in the private sector while guaranteeing their financial and retirement rights, and this reduces the pressure on state institutions in the appointment file."
On March 29, 2024, economic affairs expert Nabil Al-Marsoumi warned of a “debt crisis” that would drain the country’s financial resources and restrict the opportunities available to develop the Iraqi economy .
Al-Marsoumi said in a post on Facebook, followed by Baghdad Today, that “one of the important economic problems that may have negative repercussions on the economic future in Iraq is the continuous rise in actual public expenditures without a parallel rise in public revenues that are witnessing " Sometimes lower .  "
Al-Marsoumi added, “Public expenditures increased in 2023 by about 40 trillion dinars compared to 2022,” pointing out that “the percentage of increase in actual public expenditures amounted to 22%, while public revenues decreased by about 26 trillion dinars, or by 19%, which reflects negatively on the deficit.” In the ever-expanding public budgets .  ”
He stressed that "this situation may expose the country to a debt crisis that will drain the country's financial resources and restrict the opportunities available to develop the Iraqi economy .  "
The Minister of Planning, Muhammad Tamim, revealed on Wednesday (March 27, 2024) that the budget deficit had risen to 80 trillion dinars .
