Member of the Parliamentary Energy Committee, Zainab Al-Moussawi, confirmed today, Monday, that Iraq’s electricity production will reach 27 thousand megawatts during the next month, calling on the Baghdad local government to issue new instructions regarding the summer operation of generators commensurate with the increase in processing hours.
Al-Moussawi said in a statement followed by Al-Iqtisad News, “Last summer witnessed a significant and tangible improvement in energy production, due to the Ministry of Electricity’s plans to rehabilitate and raise performance in the transmission and distribution sectors,” adding that “the volume of production will reach 27 thousand megawatts during the next month, compared to the need.” Local amounting to 21 thousand.
Al-Moussawi called on the local government in Baghdad to “issue new instructions regarding the summer operation of generators commensurate with the increase in processing hours,” adding that “citizens are forced to pay monthly amounts of up to 250 thousand dinars to generator contractors in the summer.”
The Minister of Electricity, Ziad Ali Fadel, pledged earlier to increase power supply hours during the summer of this year.
