Establishing factories to generate energy from waste from the fourth generation onwards

The Electricity and Energy Committee in the House of Representatives revealed that the factories for generating electrical energy from waste will be of the fourth generation, while economic experts indicated that these factories will remove unhealthy landfill sites and quarries that do not meet the conditions.
Committee member, Dhikra al-Rudaini, explained in an interview with “Al-Sabah” that “the areas that will be supplied with electrical energy from these plants are those close to the station in the Nahrawan area, south of Baghdad,” noting that “the amount of energy expected to be generated by these stations ranges between 80 and 90 megawatts, depending on the heat content of the waste.”
Al-Rudaini added, “The laboratories will be supplied to operate with fourth-generation technology and above, which is a modern technology approved in many developed countries such as Japan, Europe, the United States, Turkey, and China,” noting that the committee supports “generalizing the experience to the rest of the governorates upon the project’s launch and success, as It has positive effects in reducing the environmental impact on society as it is clean energy without emissions and covers part of the demand for electricity.”
In turn, economic expert Jalil Al-Lami praised the government’s approach to confronting environmental challenges by relying on modern, environmentally friendly technology in producing electricity, by investing in waste estimated at 40 thousand tons per day.
Al-Lami added, in an interview with “Al-Sabah,” that “there is a trend towards projects to treat waste, residues, and sewage, and to invest in solar energy, wind energy, and others, to diversify energy sources, which return a sustainable service and production return, and develop government revenues independently of dependence on oil revenues.” In addition to achieving the goal of sustaining environmental systems, by combating one of the most important problems in this context, which is the accumulation of waste in city centers and the lack of sustainable mechanisms to dispose of it by producing electrical energy.”
The economic expert explained, “It is possible to generate one megawatt for 40 tons of waste, which means that the station that exploits 3,000 tons of waste can produce 80 megawatts per day, and that is why the government adopted
A modern, high-quality technology, which is complete network incineration (from the fourth generation onwards) in producing electrical energy from waste, similar to developed countries.”
He pointed out that “by allocating the necessary plots of land to establish the project in Rusafa and Al-Karkh in Baghdad, the project came into effect due to the capital’s need for such investment projects to dispose of waste estimated at 9,000 tons per day,” explaining that “the success of this project will mean removing unhealthy landfill sites that do not meet the conditions.” In addition to the waste quarries in Baghdad and the governorates, relying on regular landfill sites will limit their impacts on the surrounding environment, and this applies to the intermediate collection stations and the timeframes required to remove waste from them.”
