The Oil, Gas and Natural Resources Committee scheduled today, Thursday, to host Oil Minister Hayan Abdul Ghani to discuss the resumption of oil exports through Turkey.[/size]
[size=45]Committee member, Bahaa Al-Din Al-Nouri, acknowledged in an interview, “the difficulty of resuming oil exports through Turkey due to its demand from Iraq to extinguish the amounts owed to it, in addition to the region’s demand that the central government pay the dues of oil companies operating in the region,” indicating that “these two matters are not possible at all.” “.[/size]
[size=45]He explained, “The committee will discuss with the minister finding alternatives to stop the resumption of oil exports since last year and the huge losses that Iraq is exposed to as a result.”[/size]
[size=45]For his part, the expert in the field of oil and energy safety, Sabah Alo, supported what a member of the Oil and Gas Committee said regarding the difficulty of settling the issue of resuming oil exports as a result of the intertwining of security, economic and political interests.[/size]
[size=45]Alo added to “Al-Sabah” that “the decision of the International Court in Paris that it was illegal to export oil from Kurdistan via Turkey resulted in a compensatory fine on the latter amounting to $1.5 billion for the Iraqi government and a suspension of the export of oil from the region for more than a year.”[/size]
[size=45]He continued, “Turkey is trying to evade payment through various means, and several meetings were held between the Iraqi and Turkish sides without reaching a solution,” noting that “Turkish President Erdogan’s recent visit to Iraq discussed re-exporting oil after settling the differences, at a time when the region is demanding Baghdad.” By paying dues to oil companies operating in Kurdistan in exchange for recovering customs revenues, taxes, etc., this needs to be settled between the two parties quickly, to give Iraq a safe environment for political, economic, and security stability.”[/size]
