Agriculture expects to market 6 million tons of wheat

The Ministry of Agriculture has considered the current wheat harvest season a golden season in light of expectations of achieving high rates of production that may exceed six million tons.
The Ministry's advisor, Dr. Mahdi Al-Qaisi, told Al-Sabah: The reason for the increase in production this season is due to the use of sprinkler irrigation systems that reduce the amount of water by between 30-40 percent, in addition to the continued support from the government represented by the immediate payment of farmers' financial dues.
He added that the Ministry of Commerce was ready to work and meet the dues of farmers and marketers, noting that the advantages of this year’s plan are to force farmers who rely on well water to use sprinkler irrigation systems because they have advantages, including reducing the amount of water the plant needs by 30 to 40 percent, in addition to Using modern irrigation techniques because it does not cause waterlogging or salinization compared to seasonal irrigation.
Al-Qaisi explained that these advantages were reflected in wheat production this season, as we initially expected to reach a production of 6 million tons of wheat, but after observations on the ground and when the harvesting process began, we became optimistic about production exceeding this number.
He pointed out that the decision of the Council of Ministers that allowed the receipt of wheat outside the agricultural plan was set with controls and conditions, including that the Ministry of Agriculture must ensure that the process of cultivating the wheat crop was carried out with the knowledge of the Agricultural Division and then approved by the Directorate of Agriculture and then the higher committees in the governorate so that it is documented and the relevant authorities bear the information. presented in this regard.
Al-Qaisi attributed the development taking place in this season to the Prime Minister’s visit to Wasit Governorate last year to deliver the first instruments to marketers, and this year he repeated the same method by visiting Anbar Governorate recently, where the financial dues for wheat production are being delivered immediately.
He pointed out that receiving the crop in this way motivates farmers to grow more wheat crops, praising the efforts of the supporting sectoral ministries, such as water resources and trade mainly, and other ministries, as well as the efforts of the private sector, which is represented by farmers, farmers and investors.
Al-Qaisi stated that there is a national effort that stimulates the expansion of cultivated areas, matched by clear government support in this field, which was represented in one aspect by implementing contracts to obtain sprinkler irrigation systems from the Ministry of Industry and the other by an Austrian company.
