WASHINGTON (Reuters) - US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo admitted Tuesday that there were differences within the administration over the inclusion of the terrorist group on the terrorism list, revealing the Pentagon's opposition to the move.
"The US State Department has designated an Iraqi group as a terrorist organization earlier this month despite the Pentagon's objection," Pompeo said in remarks published by The New York Times.
"It was seen in different groups, including the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, for inclusion in the list of terrorism," Pompeo said. "There may be organizations and factions that will be classified as terrorist organizations."
On March 5, the US Treasury Department announced the inclusion of Al-Najba and its secretary-general Sheikh Akram Al-Kaabi on the terrorism list.
While Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi refused to recognize the American decision, stressing that the Iraqi government is not interested in Washington's action to include the movement on the list of terrorism. Ending / 25 z
