More than 50 companies from 12 Arab and foreign countries are competing to market their products in the Basra International Oil, Gas and Renewable Energy Exhibition. The opportunity is favorable in the exhibition, because the oil and gas industry in Iraq is thirsty for modern technology and advanced equipment in the fields of drilling, exploration and even safety systems.
Osama Majid, the exhibition’s media officer, told UTV that “the exhibition is very specialized in oil and energy technology and everything related to the work of oil companies, and the upcoming companies realize the importance of the city of Basra being home to the Iraqi oil industry, even at the level of the Middle East and OPEC, and thus managed to attract 50 companies from 12 countries.
Despite the technical progress in renewable energy sources, the age of oil does not seem to end soon with the continued demand for its traditional sources, hence the need for Iraq to keep pace with the development of oil industries and gas investment by relying on foreign companies.
Ahmed Sharaf, an oil expert, told UTV that "Iraq has made its way to development, but it is still in the initial stage and needs to develop further, and this needs cooperation with foreign companies."
Techniques for monitoring emissions of polluting industrial activities were present at the exhibition. A mobile station that entered service in the Iraqi Ministry of Environment recently was shown to monitor the air quality of cities with high levels of pollution due to oil activities.
Alaa Abbas, director of a technology company, told UTV that “Basra’s Environment Directorate owns 5 stations of this type to monitor air quality and diagnosed the defect and helped carry out studies on specific foci in which cancerous diseases spread, and there is a clear link between air pollution and the increase in the rate of cancerous diseases.”
The Iraqi Oil Ministry companies such as South Gas and Refineries will participate in the exhibition, as well as the Basra and Dhi Qar oil companies. These government companies are trying to weave relations with their foreign counterparts to benefit from their expertise as well as introduce their investment opportunities.
