Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan thanked, on Friday, Iraq for its solidarity with Turkey after the devastating earthquake that hit it at dawn last Monday, killing about 17,000 people and destroying hundreds of buildings.

And the Iraqi Presidency said, in a statement received by IQ NEWS, that President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid today made a phone call with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The President of the Republic expressed his "sincere condolences and sympathy to President Erdogan, the Turkish people and the families of the victims of the devastating earthquake, wishing the injured a speedy recovery."

During the call, the President also expressed "the solidarity of the government and people of Iraq with the Turkish people in their current ordeal in the face of the serious humanitarian repercussions left by the earthquake."

In turn, the Turkish president expressed his "sincere thanks and gratitude to President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid and to the Iraqi people for their sympathy and solidarity with Turkey following the earthquake disaster."
