A parliamentary delegation arrives in Syria in preparation for the return of Damascus to its Arab surroundings

The Arab delegations participating in the conference of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union, which was held recently in Baghdad, met with the four presidencies and discussed a number of issues, on top of which was support for Iraq's policy in its new openness to its Arab surroundings. The President of the Republic, Abd al-Latif Jamal Rashid, received, at the Baghdad Palace, the Speaker of the Arab Parliament, Adel Abd al-Rahman al-Assoumi, the Secretary-General of Parliament, Kamel Shaarawi, and a number of members of the Iraqi Parliament.
A statement by the Presidency of the Republic stated that Rashid "affirmed the role of the Arab Parliament in solving the problems of the region through a committee formed for this purpose," noting that "the effective participation of Arab parliaments in the 34th conference of the Arab Parliament hosted by Baghdad, which embodied the depth of relations and communication between brothers to confront challenges the region is going through.
The President of the Republic, according to the statement, called for "the necessity of consolidating joint action, strengthening parliamentary cooperation, and converging visions and ideas on many issues and files."
The statement quoted the Speaker of the Arab Parliament and the Secretary-General praising "Baghdad's hosting of the parliamentary conference, and affirmed the successes achieved by Iraq in establishing security, which is an important message about Iraq's recovery and its readiness to take its constructive role in good coexistence and understanding and to work diligently with brothers and friends in order to establish peace, security and progress."
In turn, the Prime Minister, Muhammad al-Sudani, received the Speaker of the Arab Parliament, Al-Assoumi, and discussed with him all Arab and regional issues, the challenges facing the development plans of the brotherly Arab peoples, and ways to strengthen brotherly ties at the legislative and executive levels between Iraq and its Arab surroundings.
The Prime Minister affirmed that "Iraq is determined to continue the approach of communication, strengthen the factors of stability and the causes of prosperity, and confront economic challenges through mutual integration and cooperation with all brothers and friends."
Al-Sudani also discussed, during his meeting with the Chairman of the Omani Shura Council, Khalid bin Hilal Al-Ma’awali, Arab and regional issues.
A statement by the prime minister's office stated that "Al-Sudani reviewed the most important Arab and regional issues and the economic and environmental challenges facing the countries of the region, as well as the bilateral relations between the two brotherly peoples, the Iraqi and the Omani."
Al-Sudani had also received the President of the Palestinian National Council, Rawhi Fattouh, and affirmed "Iraq's firm and principled position on the just cause of the Palestinian people, and its support for development and integration efforts that enhance security and stability for the brotherly and friendly peoples in the region."
Today, Sunday, the Speaker of the Arab Parliament, Adel Abdul Rahman Al-Assoumi, praised the role of the Iraqi judiciary, while expressing his support for the judiciary's efforts to impose the rule of law.
The President of the Arab Parliament, Adel Abdel Rahman Al-Assoumi, and his accompanying delegation visited the President of the Supreme Judicial Council, Faeq Zaidan.
A statement by the council stated that "Zaidan received Al-Assoumi, who praised the role of the Iraqi judiciary, which gave a positive image of the judiciary in the Arab countries," expressing "the support of the Arab parliament for the efforts of the judiciary to impose the rule of law and strengthen the principle of the independence of the judiciary."
In turn, Parliament Speaker Muhammad al-Halbousi, heading a delegation from the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union, went to Syria, affirming the support of the Syrian people.
And press reports stated that the Syrian President, Bashar Al-Assad, received the delegation of the Arab Parliament Union in the capital, Damascus.
The reports added that "the delegation of the Arab Parliament Union, which includes a number of heads of Arab parliaments, headed by the President of the Arab Parliament Union, Muhammad al-Halbousi, arrived in the Syrian capital, Damascus, and was received by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad at the People's Palace."
According to reports, "the aim of the visit is to support the Syrian people and stand with them in the ordeal of earthquakes, and to announce support for Syria's return to its Arab surroundings."
