    Baghdad Today - Baghdad
The Fatah Alliance confirmed, today, Friday (December 6, 2024), that the developments taking place in the region will not push us to back down from demanding an end to the American presence in Iraq.
Alliance member Ali Al-Fatlawi told Baghdad Today, “The events taking place in Gaza, Lebanon, and now Syria will not push us to back down from demanding an end to the American presence, which poses a danger and threat to Iraqi national security. This presence will also be a gateway to any expected Zionist attacks against Iraq.”
He added, "The Iraqi government is required to complete the rounds of negotiations with the American side and pressure to expedite the end of this presence and reject any arguments and justifications for the continuation of this presence, which primarily serves the Zionist entity and its project in the region."
MP Ali Nemah, a member of the Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee, confirmed on Friday (July 12, 2024) that the file of withdrawing foreign forces from Iraq will not end "overnight," indicating that it is hoped that the transition to bilateral relations will begin during the coming year .
"After the Prime Minister's visit to Washington, the discussions touched on the issue of the presence of American forces and the international coalition in general, and it was agreed to form a joint committee that would work on completing a detailed report whose decisions would be binding on both parties, and which would determine the mechanisms for the exit of those forces within specific timeframes ," Nima said in an interview with Baghdad Today.
He added: "During our last visit to the joint operations, the issue of withdrawing foreign forces was discussed, and it was confirmed that Baghdad and Washington are serious about accelerating the pace of work of the joint committee and moving the relationship to economic and diplomatic fields ."
He explained that "it is necessary to clarify to public opinion that a file of this size, in light of the presence of foreign forces that have been present for many years in military bases, will not end overnight, in light of the existence of arms and maintenance contracts, experts and common issues that require specific paths to sever ties," noting that "the most important factor is the general security situation, which is currently good, but in any case we hope that the decision will begin with the exit of American forces and the international coalition in 2025."
