Abstention of students and teachers from the outskirts

The country's High Commission for Human Rights has diagnosed a large number of students and teachers who are reluctant to attend schools in the outlying areas, attributing this to the poor services and infrastructure there.
The Director of the Public Relations and Media Department of the Commission, Sarmed Al-Badri, said in a statement to “Al-Sabah”: The Commission’s office in Baghdad made a field visit to a number of schools in the Taji and Sabaa Al-Bour areas, and observed a large reluctance of students and educational and teaching staff to attend or study in them, because most of the roads leading to them are not paved, and there are no financial incentives that take into account the geographical distance of those areas.
He added that the team also visited some schools in Al-Fahhama district and noticed their lack of sound educational environmental standards, as their buildings were constructed during the 1940s and suffer from severe overcrowding that negatively affected the educational process, in contrast to a direct increase in population density, especially in the number of students among them.
