Firefighters extinguished a fire in one of the world's tallest residential buildings in Dubai in the early hours of Friday, forcing residents to leave their homes while the burning debris fell from the sides of the 79-storey building.
Dubai's civil defense authorities said the fire brigade extinguished the fire by 4 am (0000 GMT) and cooled the 337-meter-high Torch Tower.
Authorities said the tower had been evacuated and there were no reports of casualties.
The flames took the sides of the tower in the Marina area in the second fire in this building since 2015.
Firefighters and police closed the surrounding streets, which covered dust and debris.
A Reuters witness said that by 4 am no signs of fire appeared on the exterior of the building, and residents and pedestrians stood staring at him.
"We were asleep and we woke up to the alarm and the people screamed," said one resident, "We took the stairs quickly and it took us to get off the floor for fifteen minutes."
"The fire was very severe at about 1 am Then it started to calm down in the next two hours," he said.
Another resident, Mohammed Wakim, said on the 12th floor that the fire had caught fire in the upper part of the tower and then broke down on the lower floors with debris falling.
The government said it was working to provide shelter to those affected by the fire.
Residents and eyewitnesses posted pictures of the social networking sites of the skyscraper and the flames were burning.
Hundreds were evacuated in 2015 from the same building when a major fire broke out in it
