    In a report published Thursday, Amnesty International accused the Bahraini authorities of cracking down on its opponents and of backing promises to review and reform its human rights approach.
     
    "Despite repeated allegations, it retreated from the reform promises it made after its harsh response to the 2011 events ... and since June 2016 has tightened its campaign against its opponents," the organization said.
     
    The human rights organization called on Manama to immediately and unconditionally release political dissidents and to return to the decision to dissolve the Al-Wefaq parliamentary group and the opposition political party Waad.
     
    Bahrain has been racking up unrest since the suppression of a protest movement in February 2011 in the midst of the "Arab Spring" events demanding a constitutional monarchy.
     
    In the past months, the Bahraini authorities have stepped up prosecution and prosecution of their opponents. In mid-January, three opponents were sentenced to death by firing squad for the murder of three security men, including an Emirati officer, in March 2014, leading to demonstrations.
