The first round of talks between Iran's chief of staff, General Mohammad Baqeri and Turkey's Chief of Staff General Khulosi Akkar, began in Tehran Monday morning following the official reception of the Turkish guest.
The two sides are expected to discuss developments in the region, notably the situation in Syria and Iraqi Kurdistan, the fight against terrorism, smuggling and the maintenance of border security, the Fars news agency said in a statement.
"The visit of the Turkish delegation comes in response to a visit by the Iranian military delegation headed by Major General Mohammad Baqri to Ankara, which will also deal with the implementation of the agreements signed between the two sides," it added.
General Akar arrived in Tehran Sunday evening at the head of a senior military delegation from his country at the invitation of his Iranian counterpart and will hold meetings with senior Iranian military and political leaders. Ending / 25 z
