NATO will discuss the "difficult" security environment in the Middle East and the role of NATO in stabilizing the region during a meeting on the 16th and 17th of this month, NATO announced.

"The meeting at the level of the chiefs of staff will discuss the efforts of the international coalition to defeat the role of NATO in Iraq in 2018," NATO said in a statement.

"The first session of the meeting will focus on countries in southern Europe and will include a report on the Middle East and North Africa," he said.

"The session will pave the way for further discussions on stabilization initiatives, the fight against terrorism and the international coalition to defeat the calling and training of Iraqi forces and review the status of the NATO mission in Afghanistan," he said.

"The chairman of the military commission, General Peter Pavel, will preside over the meetings," he said.

The NATO Military Committee meets twice a year at the headquarters of the NATO in Brussels at the level of Chiefs of Staff to discuss the operations of NATO and its missions in addition to meeting once a year in a member state.
