American Chief of Staff: The leaked letter on Iraq is a badly drafted draft

The head of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff told reporters that a leaked letter from the US military to Iraq on Monday raised impressions of an imminent US withdrawal from the country, which was only a poorly drafted draft aimed only to highlight an increase in troop movements.
General Mark Millie told a group of reporters that the message was “poorly worded and suggests withdrawal.” This is not what is happening, "he said, stressing that withdrawal is not planned.
The leaked letter came a day after the Iraqi parliament approved a resolution requiring all foreign forces to leave the country. The Iraqi Prime Minister's Office said it had informed the US ambassador in Baghdad on Monday that the two countries should implement the decision.
Millie said that the United States wanted to explain to the Iraqi army that there was an increase in aircraft movement, including the transfer of forces between bases in Iraq as well as the transfer to Iraq from Kuwait.
Tensions between Washington and Tehran have escalated since a US strike on the plane of Iranian military commander Qassem Soleimani was killed at Baghdad airport on Friday.
Milli declined to disclose the number of US forces present in Iraq. The US military said that they numbered about five thousand.
Milli said that the unsigned draft had been sent to get responses from Iraqi officials, and that was one of the things he said was happening regularly.
"It is an unintended mistake by people trying to do the right thing in very active situations. It shouldn't have been sent. ”
