    The First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hassan Al-Kaabi, called today, Wednesday, for an "urgent" pause to return to the previous dollar exchange rate, prior to the approval of the budget law in the House of Representatives.
    Al-Kaabi said during his presidency of the meeting of the Council today, that "the increase in the exchange rate of the dollar has a negative impact on the lives of the Iraqi citizen, and for economic stability in general."
    He stressed, "There is a need for a serious and urgent pause for all members of the House of Representatives and the Parliamentary Finance Committee to return to the previous exchange rate."
    At the end of last year, the government decided to change the exchange rate of the dollar, in the draft budget of 2021, from about 120 thousand dinars for the one hundred dollars category to 1450 thousand dinars for the same category, which met with objections from a number of political blocs.

    Hassan Karim Al-Kaabi, First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, called for mobilization in order to push the government to retreat from the decision to raise the exchange rate of the dollar.

    The Financial Committee ruled out, on Wednesday, the return of the dollar exchange rates to what they were in the past.
    Committee member Jamal Cougar said, "It is not possible to return the exchange rates of the dollar to what it was in the past," explaining the reason to "the current year budget deficit will increase by 22 trillion dinars if this happens."
    He explained, "The committee is also afraid of fully returning the budget materials after they were formulated according to the current exchange rates of the dollar," stressing that "citizens will lose confidence in the central bank and the market will be confused again."
