The commission refuses to extend the registration of entities and large blocs want 15 days

Baghdad / Muhammad Sabah
Hours before closing the file of electoral alliances registration and handing over lists of candidates' names, the Electoral Commission witnessed an unprecedented turnout of representatives of entities and parties to complete the registration of alliances.
The number of electoral alliances that will contest the polls reached more than 42 coalitions and 267 parties, while the number of candidates exceeded 1640 until last Friday.
Jumana Al-Ghalai, a spokeswoman for the Electoral Commission, confirmed in a statement to (Al-Mada) that “the number of electoral alliances reached 42 coalitions, and 267 parties,” indicating that “there is a strong turnout by alliances and parties on the Elections Commission hours before the file of electoral alliances registration and handing over Menus ”. And she added that "any extension of the electoral alliances registration period is not currently on the table," stressing that "the employees stayed for long hours after the end of the official working hours, receiving the files of alliances and the names of candidates from the political parties and parties."
For his part, Hussain Al-Hindawi, Advisor to the Prime Minister on Electoral Affairs, confirms that “some of the main coalitions reviewed the Electoral Commission on the last day of the date of registration of alliances in order to register them and hand over their lists of candidates,” indicating that any decision to extend an extension is left to the estimates of the Electoral Commission as the only party responsible for that.
Various media circulated a number of electoral alliances lists that were registered with the Election Commission in order to compete in the electoral competition scheduled for next October 10, as the lists included 18 electoral alliances. Al-Hindawi states that “the date for registering alliances is specific and cannot be extended, whatever the reasons, and is not subject to change from any party or political bloc,” indicating that the Elections Commission is obligated to electronic programming that relates to names, images, slogans, numbers and lots, all of these matters are subject to timings set by the commission.
He points out that "the names of the candidates, after receiving them from the Electoral Commission, will be sent to the Accountability, Justice, Integrity and Nationality Commission (to verify ages) and to the Ministry of Higher Education (to examine academic certificates)."
For his part, Rahim Al-Aboudi, a member of the General Authority for the Wisdom Movement, speaks in a statement to (Al-Mada) that during the past few hours it was agreed between the political parties, to extend the date for registration of electoral alliances and handing over candidate lists to fifteen days to pave the way for large coalitions to complete their consultations and send lists. Its candidates. Al-Aboudi explains that “the Kurdish forces, the Al-Fateh coalition and others did not register their electoral alliances, nor did they hand over their candidate lists to the Electoral Commission,” pointing out that due to the delay of these political alliances in the registration process, a new date for registration will be set.
On April 27, the Electoral Commission demanded the electoral alliances, parties and political figures to take advantage of what remains of the available period to receive the registration of political alliances and candidate lists on their deadline (May 1, 2021).
On April 25, Al-Mada revealed in a report that the influential political blocs and parties deliberately delayed the registration of their alliances and sent their candidate lists to the Electoral Commission to gain more time, arguing that they had not decided their options and negotiations, and started talking behind the scenes about the possibility of extending the registration period.
A member of the General Authority for the Wisdom Movement continues that “the entities that are late to the registration process are the large and not the small ones, and therefore there will be a postponement of the date of registration of alliances and the sending of candidate lists,” expecting “changes in the electoral alliances map after the process of extending the registration of electoral alliances.
On April 15, 2021, the Board of Commissioners decided to unify the periods for the reception period for candidate lists and the period for registering political alliances until May 1 2021. And he notes that “the Wisdom Movement and the Victory Coalition will enter into the“ State Power ”coalition, in addition to parties that will soon join this new alliance, indicating that the registration process has been completed, but the list remains open and we are waiting for the position of some entities permanently.
The Council of Ministers set the tenth of next October as the date for holding early elections after studying a proposal submitted by the Electoral Commission to the Council of Ministers, which includes important technical reasons, that would ensure the integrity of the elections and equal opportunities for everyone to run in the elections freely and fairly.
And it shows that "the new extension does not exceed fifteen days, meaning it will end in the middle of this month," stressing that the new extension of the registration of electoral alliances will not affect the holding of elections on the specified date.
