The European Union decided, on Monday, to deploy a mission to monitor the Iraqi elections, in response to Iraq's request.
A statement by the Union, a copy of which was received by Mawazine News, stated that "during the Foreign Affairs Council today in Luxembourg, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Affairs / Vice President of the European Commission Josep Borrell reiterated to Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein the European Union's support for Iraq in the upcoming elections in October 10, and announced that, at the invitation of the Iraqi authorities, the European Union decided to deploy an Election Observation Mission.
The European Union reiterated its support for "the Iraqi government in its efforts to hold free, fair and inclusive elections owned and led by Iraqis, with full respect for Iraq's sovereignty." Ended 29/A43
